perfume-bottle glass, and the super-heavy silver bottle top crafted by \u201cbiker Jewelry\u201d designer, <strong>Bill Wall <\/strong>(was that enough name-dropping?) \u2013 <strong>DeLeon<\/strong> is *Ultra-Bling* at its most gaudy and beautiful!\u00a0 These bottles feel great in the hand, and they look great at the bar.\u00a0 But do they TASTE great in the MOUTH?\u00a0 Watch this special #800000;\"><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">GENERAL TASTING NOTES:<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u201dSo, how does it TASTE, <strong>Lip<\/strong>?\u201d Fair question.\u00a0 When we\u2019re dealing with a brand that unabashedly asks some of the highest prices in the business (appox $130 for the <strong>blanco<\/strong>!) its taste had better be exceptional.\u00a0 Your <strong>Tequila Whisperer<\/strong> is happy to report that<strong> DeLeon \u201cDiamante\u201d(blanco) <\/strong>is some very exceptional tequila!\u00a0 The flavor profile offers up wonderful notes of spice, sweet cinnamon and agave \u2013 all enveloped in a thick and viscous mouth-feel.\u00a0 This <strong>blanco<\/strong> is almost CREAMY in the mouth!\u00a0 The full flavor package is nicely balanced and wrapped in a thick \u201cflavor blanket\u201d that lies squarely on the mid-palate and hits a lot of the frontal sweet notes along the way.\u00a0 Though there is a spice finish on the <strong>blanco<\/strong>, it\u2019s short-lived and drops off quickly. \u00a0Too bad.\u00a0 This is perhaps the \u201csoftest\u201d blanco <strong>Th\u2019 Lip<\/strong> has ever tasted, and while it has a smooth attack with no bite, it still manages to bring loads of flavor without getting watery or feeling diluted.\u00a0 Nice job,<strong> DeLeon!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The <strong>DeLeon reposado<\/strong> and <strong>anejo<\/strong> impressed less, unfortunately.\u00a0 There were astringent tangs of petroleum notes (a naturally occurring tequila flavor, BTW) present especially in the<strong> reposado<\/strong> (and smoothed over but still present in the <strong>anejo<\/strong>) which played against the sweet oaky smoothness brought on by the aging barrels.\u00a0 It was unclear to<strong> Th\u2019 Lip<\/strong> how these notes were introduced because <strong>DeLeon<\/strong> is tight-lipped about exactly how their products are aged.\u00a0 There IS a <strong>DeLeon<\/strong> marketing statement saying that the <strong>anejo<\/strong> goes through a period of aging in<strong> Sauternes<\/strong> barrels \u2013 and perhaps the <strong>repo<\/strong> does too.\u00a0 Are these barrels bringing conflicting flavor notes to the aging process?\u00a0 Dunno.\u00a0 But for now, they are not completely pleasing to <strong>Lippy\u2019s<\/strong> palate.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">BUY RECOMMENDATION:<\/span><\/strong><\/span> DeLeon Diamante <a
