It HAD to happen. Sooner or later a new brand would arrive on the scene that tasted like it had been made decades ago (an age of fewer shortcuts) and was just sitting in a warehouse awaiting its proper debut time. Well that time has come, and its name is Don Modesto!
Here’s a new brand that is full of earthy spice, and features soft, well-rounded edges in its flavor profile. Lippy was completely onboard for ALL ages of this stellar juice. Each age varietal was a great representative of its class. The repo was softened and sweetened by the wood, but not “dumbed-down” by it. The anejo added an integrated complexity to the repo while losing little of the spice and tongue-jangly heat.
Get out your wallets, people. Th’ Lip is rating Don Modesto a “buy”!
TEQUILA STATS:
BRAND: DON MODESTO
NOM: 1531
AGAVE SOURCE: Lowlands
GENERAL TASTING NOTES:
Don Modesto forsakes the easy (read: SWEET) path to the American palate and instead serves up LOADS of roasted agave bathed in a spicy and earthy stew. The blanco’s complicated flavors of citrus and slightly bitter minerals come through in all the ages of the brand. This is a brand to buy a lot of and smile about later when your friends ask for another glass!

I just checked out this episode Lip and I was taking notes! Sounds like Don Modesto is an all around great sipper worthy of giving a try. I’m definitely going to check it out!
Looks like the reposado was your favorite but you recommend all three ages! Excellent! Way to go Don Modesto!
Well RIGHT ON, Rasta. You’ve been BUSY here in the archives!
